Everyone loves the “double-header” design of this cake, which places a half ball cake on top of a round cake. You’ll love the easy decorating, done almost totally with stars.
Bake your favorite cake recipe or mix following recipe instructions for 8-inch round cake and half mini ball cake. Cool layers in pans on wire rack 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely. Arrange 8-inch round cake on foil-wrapped cake circle. Cut 6-inch cake circle to size of mini ball cake; arrange mini ball cake on unwrapped cake board. Prepare for stacked construction.
Spatula ice sides of 8-inch cake smooth with white icing. Tint small amounts remaining icing red and black; with the remainder, reserve 1/3 white, the remaining green. Cover top of round cake with tip 16 green stars. Position half mini ball cake; cover with tip 13 or 16 white stars. Add tip 3 red stitching lines. Add tip 3 black motion lines on round cake. Position icing decoration message. Pipe tip 21 green star bottom border.
