Happy Landing Butterfly Cake

Spatula icing is a quick and easy way to decorate. The colorful candy trims create a butterfly with plenty of fun—and your guests will enjoy the sweet treats on the cake.

Serves 12.

Step 1

Step 1: Bake Cake

Bake your favorite cake recipe or mix in prepared Butterfly pan following recipe instructions. Cool in pan on wire rack 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely. Arrange cake on foil-wrapped cake board cut to fit.

Step 2

Step 2: Decorate

Spatula ice cake fluffy with thinned rose buttercream. Roll out nougat candy to flatten; shape into 3 body sections and position on cake top. Roll out taffy on surface sprinkled with granulated sugar. Using paring knife, cut taffy into 2 large and 2 small teardrop shapes; brush with water and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Brush back of small teardrops with water and attach on top of large teardrops; position in wing areas. Position spice drops at edge of butterfly. Cut two black shoestring licorice for antennae. Insert a small spice drop piece on one end of antennae; insert antennae in top of head.
