Bake your favorite 2-layer cake recipe or mix in round pan. Cool cake in pan on wire rack 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely. Place on foil-wrapped cake circle. Spatula ice cake smooth with chocolate buttercream.
Divide cake into 8ths, marking icing 1-1/2 in. below top cake edge. Decorate tip 32 fleur de lis at each division mark. Decorate tip 18 shell top border and tip 32 shell bottom border. Sprinkle top of cake with sliced almonds.
