Exhilaration Cake

With buoyant bubbles of fondant, wild swirled cake separators and eye-popping pastel tiers, this cake won’t let you forget that parties are about having a great time with those you love!

Step 1

Step 1: Tint Bow In Advance

Add lemon yellow icing color to a bowl of water. Dip bow in tinted water until desired color is reached. Let dry on paper towel.

Step 2

Step 2: Bake Cakes

Bake your favorite 2-layer cake recipe or mix following recipe instructions in the 8, 12 and 16 in. pans. Cool layers in pans on wire rack 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely.

Step 3

Step 3: Prepare for Stacked Construction

Wrap 18 in. base board with foil. Place largest cake on base board and remaining cakes on cake circles. Prepare cakes for Alternate 2-Plate Construction. Lightly ice each cake in buttercream icing to prepare for covering in fondant.

Step 4

Step 4: Cover Cakes with Fondant

  • For 16-in. cake, tint 116 oz. fondant medium green. Reserve 8 oz. for circle decorations; roll out remainder 1/4 in. thick and cover cake. Tint 8 oz. fondant light green and 8 oz. dark green. Roll out three shades of fondant 1/8 in. thick. Using all sizes of Cut-Outs, cut various circles; use smaller Cut-Outs to cut portions from some larger circles. Attach to cake with damp brush, layering as desired.
  • Repeat with 12-in. cake, tinting 54 oz. fondant medium rose and 6 oz. each light and dark rose.
  • Repeat for 8-in. cake, tinting 28 oz. fondant medium yellow and 4 oz. each light and dark yellow.
  • Pipe tip 5 buttercream ball bottom borders on all cakes.

Step 5: At the Celebration

Stack cakes with Spiral Separator Plates. Add bow to top layer.
