Candy Castle Cake with Gummy Sentries

A purchased cake decorating kit transforms any cake—rectangle, round, square, or even a hexagon—into a castle. The decorating is so simple—choose your cake (even store bought), then add the castle pieces and any variety candies you choose. VOILA—instant enchantment! This version lines up gummy bears as castle sentries, substitutes sugar ice cream cones for some of the pointed turret peaks and includes candy-coated chocolate dots in multiple hues.

Step 1

Step 1: Bake the Cake

Bake your favorite 2-layer cake recipe or mix following recipe instructions. Cool in pan on wire rack 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely. Cover 13 x 19 in. cake board in Fanci-Foil Wrap. Position cooled cake on prepared board.

Step 2

Step 2: Ice The Cake

Tint buttercream icing blue; spatula ice cake and board around cake. Position roof peak on top of cake; add tip 3 icing outline message.

Step 3

Step 3: Decorate

Place 2 large turrets on the back corners of cake (additional icing may be needed to attach turrets to the cake sides.) Place 2 medium turrets on the front corners of cake. Insert door on cake; position windows. Arrange 4 small turrets, pushing down into cake to the cake board. Attach candy-coated chocolate using dots of buttercream icing around base of turrets and at front of roof peak. Attach sugar cones and turret peaks to turrets, securing with icing. Position candy coated gum squares around peaks. Position candy for bottom cake border, on cake sides and on turret peaks, securing with dots of icing. Insert gummy bears around top border.
