I'm making cookie pops that will have an edible image on them. Should I put royal icing or buttercream frosting on the cookie before placing the edible image on top? Also how advanced can I make them?

You could use either. It woul determine on what your desired mouth feel would be. Traditionally royal icing is used because it will create a hard service for the image to be held on.If you use royal icing, make sure to attach your edible image before the icing hardens. If you use buttercream it will remain creamy. Either icing will keep your edible images attached to the cookie pops.
