Can I add leftover thinned royal icing to buttercream? I glazed cookies with a yellow royal icing, now I need yellow buttercream. What do you think? Thanks!

Unfortunately, you cannot combine royal and buttercream icings.  The fat in buttercream icing will break down royal icing, making it unusable.  That’s one of the reasons that we tell people to use a perfectly clean bowl and beaters when making royal icing!
