Is there a difference between fondant and gum paste? If so, can gum paste be worked with the same as fondant?

Fondant and gum paste are two different cake decorating items. Both are used to make beautiful decorations like flowers and leaves for cakes, but fondant can also be used to cover the cake. Gum paste can be rolled much thinner, allowing you to make very realistic decorations. It's especially good for flowers that require a lot of ruffling, such as orchids or carnations. Gum paste dries more quickly than fondant, so make sure to keep it tightly covered at all times.
