When baking a cake from the box is it better to use water or milk? When a recipe or mix calls for water what is the best temperature to use – cold or warm?

Always follow directions for the cake mix you are using – the mix was developed using ingredients called for on the box. If the instructions say water, you will get your best cake texture and flavor if you use water. The added fat and natural sugars in milk can alter the texture of your cake mix. Unless the instructions say cold or hot water, room temperature, or water directly from the tap (warm, not too hot or too cold) is what you should use.
