How do I get my cakes to rise higher?

Kathy - from St. John's, Canada

If you like everything else about the cake you are making – the flavor, the texture, the moisture, then the only way to make a higher cake layer is to fill your pan more. The general rule of thumb is 2/3 full. For a few recipes, 3/4 full will still bake nicely without the batter running over the sides of the pan.
