How do you measure the appropriate thickness of fondant?

There are two ways to measure the thickness of fondant. The easiest is to buy rolling pin guide rings, which only allow you to roll out the fondant to a particular thickness – they slip onto the ends of the rolling pin – this assures even thickness on the entire piece of fondant. You can also use a ruler to measure the thickness.
