What is the best to use for a shaped pan – a cake mix or a mix from scratch?

It's personal preference whether you choose a mix or make a cake from scratch. Most shaped pans use about 5 cups batter, and a cake mix makes between 4-3/4 and 5-1/3 cups batter. Just remember, it's as much the decoration as the cake flavor that makes these cakes fun!
