How do I get my fondant to stop cracking while I'm cutting into the cake?

Fondant begins to dry out once it's exposed to air, which can cause the cracking. So I suggest only storing a fondant covered cake at room temperature for 3-4 days. Leaving it out any longer may result in a cracked cake.
