When making buttercream roses, my edges are very ragged and they look like carnations. Adding a small amount of water makes the petals droop. I can’t find the right consistency!

Instead of adding water, try adding a small amount of corn syrup to your buttercream icing. Corn syrup will thin the icing less than the water, while also adding elasticity to the icing.
