There are several possibilities that your cake is cracking on the edges. Frequently opening an oven door while the cake is baking may be one. Or, your cake may be overbaking. Check the oven temperature (they tend to get hotter as they get older), with an accurate oven thermometer set in the center of the oven for 10 minutes after preheating, to make sure it’s the temperature the recipe calls for. Finally, covering your cake with a dish towel while it is cooling in the pan may also help prevent cracks.
