When do you sprinkle the colored sugar onto spritz cookies … before or after baking?

If the only decoration is the colored sugar or sprinkles, you would sprinkle the sugar and sprinkles onto the cookie dough before baking. If you plan to outline the cookie in any way with icing, then you could sprinkle just after applying the icing, so that it sticks to the moist icing.
