My buttercream icing often cracks after it has sat for a few days; is there anything I can do to prevent this?

It sounds like your icing is too dry which will contribute to the cracking. In order to prevent dryness, you may try adding more water and/or corn syrup to your icing. The corn syrup will help your icing become more elastic and stretch when it dries. Make sure to store it in an airtight container.
